Film Circuit favourite Lasse Hallström (CHOCOLAT, THE SHIPPING NEWS, THE CIDER HOUSE RULES) returns with an all-star cast in AN UNFINISHED LIFE, which screened at the Toronto International Film Festival®.

Set against the rugged backdrop of the western United States (but shot in and around Kamloops, B.C.), AN UNFINISHED LIFE is the story of a divided, modern-day Western family who learn the true meaning of forgiveness. Robert Redford (THE HORSE WHISPERER) is Einar Gilkyson, a tough, retired rancher who long ago turned his back on the past. Still in shock from his only son’s death a decade earlier, Einar has let both his ranch and his marriage fall into disrepair. Now Einar spends most of his time caring for his only friend and hired hand, Mitch (Morgan Freeman, MILLION DOLLAR BABY) who was seriously injured in an encounter with a grizzly bear. Einar’s intention to live out his days in lonely, heartbroken self-pity is interrupted when the very person he blames for his son’s death comes to town: his daughter-in-law, Jean (Jennifer Lopez, SHALL WE DANCE), who introduces Einar to his granddaughter, Griff (radiant newcomer, Becca Gardiner).

Suddenly, Einar’s quiet life is turned upside down as anger and accusations resurface. But slowly, miraculously, eleven-year-old Griff’s curiosity about western life – along with her longing for family and a father figure – begin to chip away at Einar’s hardened heart and open the way for unexpected connection, adventure and reunion. Hallström and long-time director of photography Oliver Stapleton (THE SHIPPING NEWS, THE CIDER HOUSE RULES) team up with producer

Alan Ladd Jr. (BRAVEHEART, THE MAN IN THE IRON MASK) for one of the most highly anticipated films of the year.

Filmed near Ashcroft and Kamloops.

"[An Unfinished Life] overflows with warm fuzzies. It’s also really well done." - Jeff Strickler, Minneapolos Star Tribune
